School Recruitment Video
Two of my boys were in the color guard at Lowell Elementary a few years ago. Using my iPhone and a gimbal I captured some of their performances and put together a video for the school to use as a promotional tool to increase membership.
AirbnB Property video
A few weeks ago my family attended a family reunion at a lake house in Michigan. While there, I shot some drone video of the property and surrounding area as well as video on my iPhone. I assembled it into a short promotional video that the home owner is now using to promote rentals.
community outreach video
This video is one that I did for Allstate back in 2017. It's a great example of story telling and use of music to set and change moods.
I worked on this with the producer and with very little input from the client we were able to come up with something pretty powerful.
Visual FX, sort of :)
I love visual FX in movies and TV, and found a new way to use my skill while at Allstate.
The legal department will often flag a video as "not legal" because it contains a logo of another corporation. Before I arrived at Allstate, the standard practice was to blur the logo out. I decided to show them a few other ways to do it and it caught on like wildfire.
Over time a great bit of my work was doing these kinds of visual FX. To some it seemed tedious, but I always enjoyed the challenge.
Also, the 3D logo was created by me using Cinema 4D.
Summer with dad
In 2016 I decided to take the summer off and stay home with the kids for the summer, something I had never been able to do when I had a full time job. The kids and I decided to shoot a video to show all the things we did over the summer. Not only were there tons of activities, but I taught all 3 of them to ride bikes for the first time.
Many of the locations in the video include the Wheaton Park District.
I also created a BTS blog post to break down how we did it and what the challenges were.
Summer with Dad, Behind the Scenes
Lions clubs international, recruitment video
This video was a mix of 4x3 and 16x9 source materials because at the time we were still switching over from SD to HD.
I was given a script of content, but was tasked with choosing the music and editing it along with coming up with the graphics.
Lauren you mentioned graphics creation as part of the requirements, and this is a good example of a job I did entirely on my own.
Public presentation / edit demonstration
I few years ago I gave a presentation at a local editors meet-up and went into detail about how I approach editing and the process of creativity.
We didn't discuss it on our call, but I also enjoy teaching and sharing the things that I know. I've done a few talks since this one too but I always liked the way this one came together.
You can take a pretty good guess at the age of this video based on the editing software I was using at the time.
commencement speech
In 2015 I went back to the school I graduated from so many years earlier to give a commencement speech. I had wanted to do it for a long time, but kept getting scared and canceling over the years.
Finally, I found the courage and actually stuck to it. It was short but effective and was a definite growing experience for me.
